Keep Your Toothbrush in a Sanitary Place
The bathroom counter is a common place to store your toothbrush, but in reality, keeping your toothbrush our in the open can be an unhealthy decision. Airborne germs — particularly those from toilet flushes — can land on your toothbrush and find a permanent home. To help protect your toothbrush, store it in a cool, dry place such as a medicine cabinet or underneath the sink.
Replace Your Toothbrush Frequently
Dentists recommend replacing your toothbrush at least every three months — more often if the bristles become frayed or if you have recently been ill. Part of proper toothbrush care is routine, timely replacement, even if your toothbrush shows no visible signs of wear and tear. If you have trouble keeping track of when it’s time for a new toothbrush, try setting a reminder on your phone or using a distinct color toothbrush for each of the four seasons.
Practice Gentle Brushing
Brushing your teeth too vigorously is not only damaging to your gums, but it is also damaging to your toothbrush. Try to brush as gently as you can by not using excess pressure or force while manipulating your toothbrush. Pressing lightly while reaching all areas of your mouth will still effectively clean your teeth.
